Experienced professional Cannizzaro takes on role of deputy executive director for OCEMA shipping association
OCEMA Appoints Rob Cannizzaro as Deputy Executive Director
Rob Cannizzaro, a seasoned professional in the intermodal transportation industry, has been appointed as the Deputy Executive Director of the Ocean Carrier Equipment Management Association (OCEMA), effective August 1, 2025.
OCEMA, a Washington-based association, consists of 10 international ocean common carriers that come together to discuss operational, safety, and related matters regarding intermodal transportation of ocean freight within the U.S. Its subsidiary, United Intermodal Enterprises, LLC (UIE LLC), owns the South Atlantic Chassis Pool, the largest fully interoperable single provider chassis pool in the U.S. [1]
Cannizzaro's extensive experience spans over 25 years, with roles as Principal Advisor at Cannizzaro Intermodal Advisors LLC and as Chief Operating Officer at the Intermodal Association of North America (IANA). He has also worked as an executive with Virginia International Terminals, CMA CGM, and Hamburg Sud. [2]
In addition to his new role at OCEMA, Cannizzaro serves on the Advisory Committee on Supply Chain Competitiveness and the board of the Containerization and Intermodal Institute. [1]
Cannizzaro reports to Jeffrey Lawrence, the Executive Director of OCEMA. His expertise and background are expected to enhance the organization's capabilities in managing equipment and facilitating intermodal operations for its members.
Meanwhile, the U.S. container imports are surging, challenging the record set in 2022. China's volumes and tariff anxiety are contributing factors to this increase. Retailers expect tariff-battered import volumes to be 5.6% weaker in 2025. [3]
Trans-Pacific container rates are falling, according to an analyst. The port of Savannah, however, posted the best fiscal year since the pandemic, indicating a continued demand for intermodal transportation. [4]
