Exploration of Opportunities Solicited for Klaipėda Southport Development Endeavor at Klaipėda Port
The Klaipėda Southport Development Project, a significant expansion in the port's history, is set to significantly increase the cargo handling capacity of Klaipėda and create new opportunities for advanced industrial and logistics operations.
The project, currently in the advanced preparatory phase, involves reclaiming approximately 100 hectares of new port territory and constructing 1.3 kilometres of new quays. This expansion is designed to host state-of-the-art port terminals, including infrastructure such as a 1.3 km long quay line, an entrance channel, a turning circle, and utilities for new container terminals, plus a marina for recreational vessels.
Preparatory work for the project, including technical feasibility studies, navigational studies, environmental impact assessments, geotechnical investigations, and commercial structuring, is progressing on schedule. The Port of Klaipėda Authority has announced a request for expressions of interest (EOI) in the Klaipeėda Southport Development Project, inviting qualified international and domestic port terminal operators, industrial developers, and investors to submit their proposals.
The aim of the project is to significantly increase Klaipėda's cargo handling capacity and reinforce Klaipėda’s status as the largest and most dynamic port in the Baltic States. The development is also intended for manufacturing facilities and other high-value industrial activities, making it strategically advantageous for world-class terminal operators and industrial companies to establish operations.
Algis Latakas, the CEO of the Port of Klaipėda Authority, commented that this project offers a unique opportunity to invest in the future of Baltic maritime trade. The construction permit for the Klaipeėda Southport Development Project is expected by the end of 2025, after which construction can commence.
With the project progressing through planning and permitting stages, Klaipėda's maritime economy is poised for growth. More information and the EOI documentation for the Klaipeėda Southport Development Project can be found on Klaipėda Port's website. The proposed public-private partnership structure is outlined in the request for the Klaipeėda Southport Development Project.
The Klaipeėda Southport Development Project is a transformative step for the Port of Klaipėda and for Lithuania’s maritime economy, offering a unique opportunity to invest in the future of Baltic maritime trade.
