Export of products from Tomsk LPK decreased by 16% starting from early 2025
Tomsk, May 25 - RIA Tomsk
The export of products from Tomsk's forest industry complex decreased by 16% in the first four months of 2025, compared to the same period last year, according to Vladislav Azarenko, deputy head of the Siberian Interregional Office of Rosссельхознадзор.
Azarenko stated that the forestry industry's output accounts for 81% of the total export volume in Tomsk Oblast. The majority of the exported wood—50%—is shipped to Uzbekistan, followed by 19% to China, 15% to Kyrgyzstan, 8% to Kazakhstan, and 4% to Tajikistan.
As of now (the first four months of 2025), 306,000 cubic meters of wood have been exported, with last year's figure standing at 352,000 cubic meters. Eight years ago, exports reached nearly 1.7 million cubic meters, but steady decline since then may be attributed to reduced global demand.
Previously, it was reported that the start of 2025 saw a significant drop in exports of Tomsk's forestry sector products, from 137,000 to 69,000 cubic meters compared to the same period in 2024. Tomsk Senator Victor Kress attributed this decrease to the introduction of a new logistics system requiring GPS tracking devices on transport vehicles.
Factors affecting export volumes might include changes in global demand, supply chain disruptions, regulatory changes, economic downturns, and environmental issues affecting the forests in Tomsk. Without specific data or reports related to Tomsk's forest industry, these are speculative factors that might contribute to a decline in exports.
The forestry industry's contribution extends not only to the export volume in Tomsk Oblast but also to the finance sector, as the decreased export of wood products could potentially impact overall revenue. Further, the implementation of new logistics systems, such as implementing GPS tracking devices on transport vehicles, could have implications for the industry's finance and operational efficiency.
