Federal Government, Unions Agree on 3-Year Civil Service Salary Boost
The federal government and civil engineering service unions have struck a deal on a model for boosting civil service salaries. The agreement, the first of its kind in the Second Republic, spans three years and promises an average annual increase of 1.5 percent.
The new model will see no increase in salaries from January 1, 2026, to June 30, 2026. However, from July 1, 2026, to July 31, 2027, there will be a 3.3 percent increase. This will be followed by two moderate increases of 1 percent each in 2027 and 2028. The agreement provides an average 1.5 percent increase over the three years.
The wage increase is differentiated by time periods and income levels. Those earning up to 3,068 euros per month will receive the most. The state is expected to save 310 million euros in 2026 due to the agreed salary increases.
The public service will see an average increase of 1.5 percent per year over the next three years, with the exact distribution varying by income group and time period. This agreement marks a significant step in the remuneration of civil servants.
