Federal Road 429 Bridge Reopens to Cyclists and Pedestrians on October 2nd

The bridge maintenance on Federal Road 429 is nearing completion. The bicycle and pedestrian path on the eastern bridge cap has been closed since June, but will reopen on October 2nd. The project aims to lift the current weight restriction, allowing vehicles up to 44 tons to cross the bridge.

The existing bridge caps are being demolished and rebuilt with lightweight concrete. Truck traffic has been able to continue using the road during the work, with one lane open in each direction. Detours have been signposted for cyclists and pedestrians via surrounding paths and the state road 3359. The bicycle and pedestrian lane on the west side of the bridge will reopen in mid-October 2025 upon completion of the work on the 'Eselswiese' arch. These works are expected to continue until winter 2025/2026, with the next phase involving demolishing and renewing the bridge cap on the west side.

The strengthening work on the 'Donkey's Way' bridge is progressing well. The reopening of the bike and pedestrian path on October 2nd will provide a welcome convenience for commuters and locals alike. Upon completion, the bridge will again be able to support heavier vehicles, improving safety and efficiency for all users.
