Ferrari Seized at German Border: Driver Fined €124,000 for Non-Declaration
A Swiss-registered Ferrari, valued at around 207,000 euros, was seized at the Konstanz - Paradiesertor customs office in early September. The driver, a Luxembourg resident, failed to declare the vehicle upon entry into Germany.
The driver was fined 64,000 euros in import duties and an additional 60,000 euros as a penalty. This incident is part of a larger trend: between January and June 2025, 26 vehicles registered outside the EU were detected in the district of the Main Customs Office Singen, with a total value of over 230,000 euros and import duties of around 71,500 euros.
In a separate case, a 60-year-old driver resident in Luxembourg was fined around 124,000 euros for importing a black Ferrari into Germany without declaring it to customs. During the same period, customs documents could not be presented for another 38 vehicles, with a total value of over 330,000 euros and import duties of over 165,000 euros becoming due.
The driver of the Ferrari paid the duties and security deposit on the spot and was allowed to continue his journey. A tax penalty procedure was initiated against him and forwarded to the Main Customs Office Karlsruhe for further processing. These incidents highlight the importance of declaring vehicles registered outside the EU when entering Germany.
