Free Wills Month Returns: Get Your Will Written or Updated for Free
Free Wills Month, a UK-wide initiative, is back. This March, various charities and law firms are teaming up to offer free will writing or updates for those aged 55 and over. The scheme covers England, Northern Ireland, and Wales, ensuring your wishes are respected and reducing potential legal complications.
The participating charities, which rely on legacy gifts, and law firms (solicitors) aim to help individuals and couples make or update their wills. One partner needs to be over 55 for both to get 'mirror' wills. The offer is not means-tested and covers basic wills or small amendments. More complex wills may incur a fee.
To take part, visit the official website and follow the instructions to find local participating law firms. Appointments are mostly face-to-face in solicitors’ offices, with some offering remote or home visits. Leaving 10% or more as charitable gifts in your will can reduce Inheritance Tax from 40% to 36%.
Free Wills Month provides a valuable opportunity to ensure your estate is divided according to your wishes and to support your chosen charities. Don't miss out on this chance to protect your loved ones and give back to causes you care about.
