Little Sesame, the fastest-growing brand in the natural channel, has announced an ambitious expansion plan for the next few years. The company, known for its flavorful and sustainable hummus products, aims to scale production, deepen commitments to regenerative agriculture, and rapidly grow its retail presence.

The cornerstone of this expansion strategy is a $8.5 million Series A funding round, led by InvestEco Capital, with participation from Watchfire Ventures, Santatera Capital, Beliade Consumer Partners, and individual investors. Nick Wiseman, CEO and Co-Founder of Little Sesame, described the funding as a pivotal moment in their journey.

A key initiative of the expansion plan is the opening of a 23,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility by the end of 2025. This facility will include a test kitchen for product innovation and in-house High-Pressure Processing (HPP) capabilities. The new plant is expected to increase Little Sesame's hummus production capacity by 400%, reaching 400,000 pounds of hummus per week.

In addition to expanding production, Little Sesame is focusing on retail growth. The brand is already found in approximately 3,000 stores nationwide, and in 2024 alone, it added 1,000 new store doors, including partnerships with major chains such as Whole Foods, Sprouts, Wegmans, Giant Food, and Erewhon. The expansion plan aims to continue this strong retail growth.

To support organic and sustainable production, Little Sesame sources organic chickpeas from farmers in Montana and the Northwest. The company is leveraging funding to expand partnerships with farmers who use regenerative agriculture practices, and it targets transitioning 10,000 acres to regenerative management by 2027. This aligns with its mission to promote sustainability in its supply chain.

Little Sesame's expansion will also include the development of new product lines. The company plans to expand its Hummus for Kids line and other healthy snack options. Alejandro Gonzalez, Managing Partner at Santatera Capital, expressed pride in Little Sesame's achievements, stating that the brand is building a category-defining company.

The expansion strategy comes at a time when Little Sesame is experiencing impressive growth. Since its launch in 2021, the brand has experienced over 100% year-over-year growth. The funding round coincides with the ongoing Summer of Hummus tour, a campaign focusing on spreading joy and promoting community engagement.

Santatera Capital reinforces its commitment to Little Sesame through a second investment, supporting the vision to build a sustainable food brand that amplifies its presence in the hummus category. The funds will be used to enhance manufacturing capabilities, product development, and talent acquisition.

In conclusion, Little Sesame's expansion plan is a testament to its commitment to scale production significantly, innovate, and uphold environmentally conscious sourcing practices. The brand's mission to promote real, flavorful food that's better for people and the planet remains at the heart of its strategy.

The $8.5 million Series A funding round, led by InvestEco Capital, will be utilized to finance the expansion of Little Sesame's manufacturing capabilities, with the opening of a 23,000-square-foot facility expected by the end of 2025. This growth in finance is aimed at increasing hummus production capacity by 400%, diversifying product lines such as expanding the Hummus for Kids line and other healthy snack options, and boosting retail presence in the business sector, aligning with a lifestyle of sustainability and promoting real, flavorful food.
