Germany's Broadcasting Fee Payment System to Change in June 2025
A significant change is coming to the way broadcasting fees are paid in Germany. Starting June 2025, the transition to a new payment information system will begin, marking the end of quarterly or annual reminders by mail. The ARD ZDF Deutschlandradio Beitragsservice, the institution managing these payments, will introduce a news system to streamline the process.
The new system will be implemented gradually, with consumers no longer receiving reminders in the post. Instead, a single payment information will summarize all future due dates. The broadcasting fee remains at 18.36 euros per month and apartment, with typical payment dates continuing to be quarterly, semi-annually, or annually.
To ensure punctual payment, the ARD ZDF Deutschlandradio Beitragsservice recommends using a standing order or SEPA direct debit. Bank transfers will still be allowed, but reminders for these payments will cease from October 2025. It's crucial to note or automate payment deadlines to avoid missed payments.
The transition to the new payment system is set to improve efficiency and convenience for consumers. The broadcasting fee remains unchanged for now, with a proposed increase to 18.94 euros in 2025 currently under legal dispute. The ARD ZDF Deutschlandradio Beitragsservice, operating since January 1, 2013, continues to manage these payments, ensuring a smooth transition to the new system.
