Germany's Crackdown on Illegal Employment in Gastronomy Nets 3 Workers

Authorities in Germany have launched a crackdown on illegal employment in the gastronomy sector. Over 100 inspectors from the Financial Control Schwarzarbeit (FKS) of the Main Customs Office Cologne checked 38 businesses and 187 employees nationwide. The operation led to the discovery of several illegal workers, including a 45-year-old Vietnamese man in Erftstadt and two others in Cologne.

The investigation into the Vietnamese man's business is ongoing. On-site questioning of employees was just the start. Further checks are needed to verify employee data, ensuring proper registration for social security and compliance with minimum wage laws.

The FKS inspectors found the 45-year-old man illegally employed in a restaurant in Erftstadt. He, along with a 23-year-old Brazilian woman and a 28-year-old Indian man discovered in Cologne restaurants, are all facing investigative proceedings. If found guilty, the restaurant owners could face both legal and administrative penalties, such as fines, closure of their businesses, or even criminal charges.

The nationwide focus check by the FKS highlights Germany's commitment to combating illegal employment. Authorities remind businesses to ensure their employees are properly registered and paid according to the law. Those found violating these regulations face severe consequences.
