Government employees in Dubai are given a 10-day respite from work for marriage ceremonies, as decreed by Sheikh Mohammed.
In a significant move aimed at enhancing psychological and family stability, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, has issued a decree granting Dubai government employees a 10-day fully paid marriage leave. The decree, which applies to Emirati employees working in government agencies and authorities supervising special development zones and free zones, outlines key eligibility criteria and benefits.
To be eligible for the marriage leave, employees must meet several conditions. They must be UAE citizens, have successfully completed their probationary period, and their spouse must also be a UAE citizen. The marriage contract must be certified in the UAE and concluded after December 31 of the previous year. A copy of the marriage contract must be submitted only once when applying for the leave.
The benefits of the decree are substantial. Employees will receive their full gross salary during the marriage leave, including allowances and financial benefits. The 10 days of marriage leave can be taken continuously or intermittently, but must be used within one year of the marriage contract date. Employees can also combine marriage leave with any other leave they are entitled to.
During the leave period, government entities cannot recall the employee to work, except for military personnel if their work requires it. This provision ensures that employees can fully enjoy their marriage leave without the worry of work-related distractions.
The decree is part of an ongoing effort to strengthen successful family life and balance personal and professional responsibilities for Emirati government employees in Dubai. The aim is to create a supportive environment that fosters psychological and family stability, thereby contributing to a happier and more productive workforce.
