Green Finance Institute, Climate Bonds & PRI Team Up for Sustainable Finance Taxonomies

The Green Finance Institute has joined forces with the Climate Bonds Initiative and the Principles for Responsible Investment in 2024 to collaborate on sustainable finance taxonomies and other frameworks. The partnership aims to create a taxonomy resource centre, fostering integration within broader regulatory frameworks and engaging with stakeholders to scale up private finance for sustainable development globally.

The collaboration seeks to build consensus on taxonomy definitions, support taxonomy development, and provide tools for implementation. Liesel van Ast, Deputy Head of the Green Finance Institute, highlights the role of sustainable finance taxonomies in promoting a common language for sustainable finance and the development of the Common Framework of Sustainable Finance Taxonomies for Latin America and the Caribbean.

Sean Kidney, CEO of the Climate Bonds Initiative, describes taxonomies as 'shopping lists' for investments in a sustainable future. Nathan Fabian, PRI's chief sustainable systems officer, emphasizes the importance of enhancing the usability and interoperability of sustainable finance taxonomies for effective financial markets. The three organizations will support the development of taxonomies covering emissions reduction, climate resilience, and other environmental objectives, providing tools for interoperability and usability across sustainable finance frameworks.

The Green Finance Institute, Climate Bonds Initiative, and Principles for Responsible Investment will work together to develop a taxonomy resource centre, supporting taxonomy developers and users, and facilitating integration within broader regulatory frameworks. By engaging with other stakeholders, the collaboration aims to enable private finance for sustainable development to scale up globally, promoting a sustainable future.
