Hamm's Goethestraße Reopens After €2.75M Renovation Boosting Bike Safety
Hamm's Goethestraße has reopened after a €2.75 million renovation and rebuilding project, completed in two phases over nearly a year. The project, which started in late July 2024, significantly improved bicycle traffic and safety for all road users.
The project covered 720 meters and involved the installation of around 2,400 tons of asphalt. It included the construction of dedicated bike lanes and paths, strengthening bicycle traffic in the city. Mayor Marc Herter hailed the project as a milestone in Hamm's traffic transition.
The renovation saw traffic lights renewed and a new 'real' traffic light installed at the intersection of Goethestraße and Schillerstraße. Despite the extensive work, car traffic was maintained with one lane per direction, ensuring smoother car traffic flow.
The Goethestraße was reopened on August 4, marking the end of the construction project. The €2.75 million project, primarily funded by grants (€2 million) and the city of Hamm (€515,000), aimed to provide safe driving conditions for all road users.
