🌱 Ecologic Awakening in Lebach-Jabach: A Fresh Start for Haus Eckert

🌐 Stepping right into the heart of our picturesque region, the historic farmhouse "Haus Eckert" is undergoing a radical transformation into an iconic hub for environmental education and sustainability. Thanks to a hefty 124,620.13 euros grantbestowed by the Ministry of the Environment, led by the astute Minister Petra Berg, the first-floor renovation of this sanctuary for ecology, environmental champs, and sustainable practices is firmly underway.

Since 2018, "Haus Eckert" has carved out an essential role in the educational sphere, particularly when it comes to matters of environment and sustainability. As Minister Berg so elegantly remarked, "This project offers an invaluable platform for exploring key topics such as environment, ecology, climate, and biodiversity, and will hold immense importance for the urban and regional growth strides around Lebach."

Christoph Hassel, our devoted state chairman of BUND Saarland, expressed his heartfelt gratitude towards the ministry, underscoring the strategic placement of "Haus Eckert". The hub, conveniently accessible via public transport, will become a vital junction for associations, initiatives, and keen citizens relentlessly working towards sustainable development in harmony with the Agenda 2030.

Upon completion of the latest building phase, the first floor now boasts multifunctional seminar and meeting rooms, two offices, and amenities-equipped restrooms. However, the vision stretches far beyond: future projects include the restoration of an historic beekeeping station to expand the offerings.

The BUND's unyielding commitment is hard to ignore, as evident through their outstanding track record in past projects. With the backing of both federal and state funds, the former pig sty was repurposed into a vast seminar room, the ground floor was converted into mesmerizing exhibition spaces, and the exterior of the historic building was brought back to life.

At the end of the day, the Ministry has supported the project with an impressive 210,000 euros, highlighting the significance of such initiatives for our beloved region and vigorously advocating the vision of a sustainable future for Saarland.
