Hessen Mobil Strengthens 'Donkey's Way' Bridge for Winter 2025/2026
The 'Donkey's Way' bridge on the B 429 is undergoing significant strengthening works. Hessen Mobil is carrying out the project, which includes demolishing and rebuilding the bridge caps with lightweight concrete. The aim is to lift the current weight restriction and complete the work by winter 2025/2026.
The current phase of the project involves the eastern bridge cap. This path has been closed to bike and pedestrian traffic since June and will reopen on October 2nd. A detour via surrounding paths and the state road 3359 is signposted for this period.
Once the eastern cap is completed, the construction site will switch to the third phase on October 2nd. This phase will focus on the west side bridge cap. Despite these works, truck traffic can continue to use the B 429 normally on one lane per direction.
Upon completion, the bridge will be able to support vehicles weighing up to 44 tons, with two lanes per direction and an overtaking ban for trucks. The works are expected to continue until winter 2025/2026, ensuring the bridge's longevity and safety for all users.
