Hexagon Purus Opens New Hydrogen Cylinder Manufacturing Facility in Westminster, Maryland

Hexagon Purus, a leading company in clean energy solutions through hydrogen and battery systems, has opened a new state-of-the-art hydrogen cylinder manufacturing facility in Westminster, Maryland, USA. The grand opening took place on January 27, 2023.

The new facility, spanning 60,000 square feet, will serve a dual role, acting as both a production site and a technical center of excellence. According to Dr. Michael Kleschinski, EVP at Hexagon Purus, this facility is poised to support the annual production of up to 10,000 hydrogen Type 4 composite cylinders for heavy-duty vehicle applications.

The relocation from the current operation in Taneytown, MD, where Hexagon Purus has been based since 2003, expands cylinder production capabilities and capacity. The Taneytown facility, which produces 1,200 cylinders annually and employs 50 people, will continue to operate.

The new facility in Westminster, MD, is expected to bring economic development and jobs to the city, employing up to 150 skilled workers. Jim Harris, Managing Director at Hexagon Purus in Westminster, noted that the site for the new facility was an easy choice due to its strategic location and access to a skilled workforce.

The expansion of Hexagon Purus' operations comes at a time when the global focus on green hydrogen is growing. More than 30 countries have released hydrogen roadmaps, and over USD 70 billion in government funding is committed to hydrogen investments. The transportation sector, which accounts for about 20% of annual carbon emissions globally, stands to benefit significantly from the widespread use of green hydrogen.

Hydrogen has a critical role in reducing emissions from the transportation sector and other 'hard to abate' sectors. Making green hydrogen available for use in the transportation sector is crucial to reducing carbon emissions. In fact, green hydrogen is projected to supply up to 25% of the world's energy needs by 2050.

The opening of the new facility marks a significant milestone for the hydrogen industry, with more than 500 large-scale hydrogen projects having been announced to date. Hexagon Purus' commitment to clean energy solutions through hydrogen and battery systems is a testament to the company's vision for a sustainable future.

While the name of the Managing Director of the Hexagon Purus manufacturing facility in Westminster, Maryland, USA, is not found in the provided search results, the company remains dedicated to its mission of providing clean energy solutions for a better tomorrow.
