In a significant move for the city's skyline, the Berlin Senate has given the green light for the construction of five new high-rises in the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district, specifically around the Zoo Station.

The high-rises, ranging from 60 to 110 meters in height, will be located north of the Zoological Garden Station and will be part of a larger redevelopment project that has been in the works since 2018. This project aims to create a vibrant city district with university buildings, new apartments, offices, green spaces, and city squares between Fasanenstraße and Zoo Station.

One of the high-rises, a 110-meter building, will be developed by CA Immo at the entrance to Hertzallee. This mixed-use structure will house shops, restaurants, public facilities, apartments, and office space. Another high-rise will be built for the TU, providing additional buildings for laboratories and student apartments.

The BVG's end-of-line stop will be relocated from its current location to the S-Bahn overpass, where an electric bus charging depot for the BVG's electric bus fleet will be built. This move is expected to improve public transportation in the area.

The planning for this area has been a collaborative effort, involving parties such as the TU, BVG, and the Federal Agency for Real Property. The newly adopted framework plan includes the results achieved so far in this collaboration.

It's worth noting that the redevelopment project does not include high-rise construction on Breitscheidplatz, contrary to previous reports. Originally, a Ferris wheel was planned for the site, similar to the London Eye in London, but the project failed due to lack of financing in the mid-2000s.

The other buildings in the project will also implement a mixed use of housing and commerce. The development is set to begin in the coming years, transforming the City West area and enhancing the city's urban landscape.
