Honda Cars India Exports 200,000 Vehicles, Boosting 'Make in India'
Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL) has reached a significant milestone, exporting 200,000 vehicles to global markets. This achievement, according to Kunal Behl, Vice President of Marketing & Sales at HCIL, is a testament to the company's robust manufacturing capabilities and dedicated teams.
HCIL's export journey began with shipments to nearby regions, with the initial 50,000 units going to SAARC, South Africa, and SADC nations. The company has since expanded its reach, exporting another 50,000 units to the Middle East, Mexico, and Turkey, with the Honda City being the primary export model.
The largest export markets for HCIL currently are Japan (30% share), South Africa and SADC nations (26%), Mexico (19%), and Turkey (16%). Notably, the Honda Elevate, marketed as the WR-V in Japan, was the first Honda model to be exported from India to Japan. The Honda City and Honda Elevate models have emerged as the primary contributors to export success, representing 78% of total export volume. India's automotive industry has gained international recognition due to HCIL's exports.
HCIL achieved the final 100,000 unit milestone in just two years, driven by international demand for the mid-size SUV Honda Elevate. Exports remain integral to HCIL's business and revenue strategy, with the company committed to strengthening this area and supporting the 'Make in India' initiative. With a portfolio spanning 33 countries, HCIL's export success reflects the dedication of its teams and the strength of its manufacturing capabilities.
