Identity of Accused in Evolution Case Remains Confidential Until End of March

Live Update in the Evolution vs. Anonymous Accusers Saga

The twists and turns in the ongoing legal battle between the casino gaming powerhouse, Evolution, and an anonymous accuser, have taken another unexpected turn. Originally, a superior court judge in New Jersey had ordered Evolution's lawyers to unmask the identity of their accuser's legal representatives within a week's time.

Delay in Revelation of Accusers’ Identity

However, the seven-day deadline of Friday, March 7, or Monday, March 10, has been pushed back due to a brief filed by the law firm, Calcagni & Kanefsky LLP, requesting a stay on the order. The law firm argues that revealing the identity of their clients would compromise client privacy and establish a dangerous precedent down the line.

Evolution responded promptly, with an oral argument lined up. Instead of rulings flying quickly, the judge has now scheduled the case for hearing on Friday, March 28. This extension provides Calcagni & Kanefsky LLP with additional time to prepare their case, and the anonymous accusers with a breathing room to ready themselves for potential public exposure.

Background: The 2021 Report

The legal drama began in 2021 when a report surfaced in the media, accusing Evolution of partnering with offshore gambling companies without the necessary licensing. This alleged association targeted licensed jurisdictions, leading to a staggering $3bn devaluation in Evolution's stock.

Evolution, maintaining its innocence, faced investigations by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement and the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, both of which eventually cleared Evolution of any wrongdoing, deeming the report based on false claims.

Evolution's Denied Request for Disclosure

Evolution initially pleaded for the disclosure of the accuser's identity, but court rulings were unfavorable as it was unclear at the time if the report held any merit. However, with the conclusions of the PGCB and DGE siding with Evolution, the last hurdle seems to have been removed.

The accusers, for now, remain anonymous, with their potential identification scheduled for early April. Whether their identities will be made public is uncertain as this decision rests solely with Evolution.

Additional Insight: The investigation into Evolution was commissioned by Black Cube, an Israeli private intelligence firm. The identity of the entity or individual who hired Black Cube remains unknown. The ongoing legal proceedings aim to uncover this mystery.

For more details: The New Jersey Supreme Court and Atlantic County Superior Court have ruled in favor of Evolution, allowing the disclosure of information related to the case. However, the primary obstacle preventing the revelation of the accusers' identities is the law firm's lack of knowledge regarding who commissioned Black Cube's investigation.

  1. Evolution's business interests and financial stability have been affected due to gambling-related allegations, prompting them to seek disclosure of the anonymous accusers' identities, allegedly linked to an illegal report that led to a significant drop in their stock value.
  2. In the midst of the legal saga between Evolution and anonymous accusers, a delay in the revealing of accusers' identities has occurred, as Calcagni & Kanefsky LLP sought a stay on the order due to concerns over client privacy and potential establishment of a dangerous precedent.
