If financial matters are at hand, I'd advise you to disconnect the call.
The Wiesbaden Senior Citizens' Council is taking proactive steps to protect older adults from fraud by hosting a monthly phone clinic, named "Don't Give Fraudsters a Chance!". This initiative, aimed at providing valuable advice on recognising, avoiding, and reporting fraud, will take place in the City Council Chamber of the Town Hall.
Older adults, who are often targeted by fraudsters, are encouraged to attend this free phone clinic. The clinic is led by Marion Beste, a police-certified senior security advisor, who provides information about current fraud schemes and valuable tips during the sessions.
The phone clinic is scheduled on the first Monday of every month, excluding holidays, such as the upcoming clinic on September 1st, from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM. The next clinic is scheduled for June 3rd, also from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM.
During these sessions, seniors can call in for scheduled phone consultations and receive personalised guidance from expert advisors or trained volunteers. Topics covered typically include common scams targeting seniors, such as phone scams, online fraud, identity theft, and financial abuse. Additionally, education on preventive measures, how to safely handle personal information, and resources for reporting fraud are provided.
In case of suspicious calls asking for money, the advice is to hang up and call the Senior Citizens' Council for advice. The phone clinic can be accessed by calling (0611) 312591. For more detailed information, it is recommended to check the official Wiesbaden Senior Citizens' Council website at www.wiesbaden.de.
It's important to note that during the coronavirus crisis, fraudsters are exploiting people's fears by using new tricks and ideas to get money. The police are warning about these new fraud schemes and encouraging everyone to stay vigilant.
In addition to the phone clinic, the Senior Citizens' Council of the city is also hosting an info event on December 5th regarding housing options for seniors. Torsten Anstadt will present housing options for seniors using an example from Wiesbaden at this event.
