Fresh Update on Wage Tariffs: Freight Forwarders and Goods Transport Industry in Thuringia See a Change After 21 Years
Changes in Charges for Long-haul Truckers and Freight Forwarders After Two Decades - Increased Freight Forwarder Charges Implemented After Two Decades
Hey there! The Thuringian State Association of the Transport Industry (LTV) and the trade union, Verdi, have struck a deal on a brand-new collective agreement for the freight forwarding and goods transport industry. This change is long overdue, with the last tariff revision happening a whopping 21 years ago! As per LTV Managing Director Martin Kammer, the new deal will take effect from April 1st, retroactively.
The old tariff agreement had expired and was no longer applicable for anyone in the industry. Consequently, the industry's tariff binding was extremely low—a situation the association had recently been vocal about due to the impact of an economic downturn.
The new collective agreement promises an hourly wage of 14.71 euros for this year and 15.29 euros in the following year, according to Kammer. The agreement spans over 22 months, as per a statement from the association. Verdi sees this agreement as a major win. Verdi negotiator Normen Schulze told the German Press Agency (dpa), "I'm proud that we've managed to achieve a result that's almost a euro above the levels in Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt."
Although small freight forwarding companies might continue to adhere to minimum wage guidelines, the new collective agreement is significant, said Schulze. "What's important for us is that many companies will now follow this new collective agreement and that we will continue to develop this agreement with our members in the future."
LTV, which represents around 600 transport companies, logistics providers, freight forwarders, taxi and rental car companies, had previously expressed concerns about declining order numbers and an economic downturn, describing the industry situation as subdued. The LTV considers the new collective agreement as a vital step toward stabilizing the industry and enhancing attractive working conditions in the freight forwarding and goods transport sector.

- As a result of the contract renegotiation, small and large freight forwarding companies in EC countries, particularly in Thuringia, may now provide vocational training opportunities to their employees, as the increased wages from the new wage tariff may incentivize businesses to invest in their workforce's development.
