ver.di United Services Trade Union: Time's Up! First-Ever Nationwide Strike Announced

Here's the lowdown on the hot-button issue of wage negotiations between ver.di and the testing, inspection, and certification services industry giants - TÜV SÜD and TÜV BUND. It's a showdown that's been brewing, and it's about to hit a boiling point.

Ver.di, the resilient United Services Trade Union, is currently negotiations wages for around 20,000 employees in the sector, colloquially known as TIC companies. Negotiations with TÜV SÜD kick off on June 27, 2025, but ver.di's had enough of empty promises, and they're bringing the heat! They've called for a nationwide strike on July 1, 2025, a move that underscores their determination. This bold step follows the first unsuccessful round in the TÜV BUND wage negotiations.

"Employers are expecting workers to swallow losses and fall behind financially. That's straight-up bullsh*t!" exclaimed ver.di negotiator Michael Aschenbach. "We're standing firm to demonstrate our resolve before the second round, and we won't back down."

The collective bargaining agreement for TÜV BUND covers key players like TÜV NORD, Gesellschaft für Anlagen- und Reaktorsicherheit (GRS), and TÜV Hessen. Ver.di anticipates a favorable offer for the second round. Their wishlist includes a 7.5% wage hike, equating to at least €330 more per month, for a full year. Employers have countered with offers of a mere 1.7% increase, stretched over two years. With the warning strikes scheduled for July 1, customers can expect potential disruptions in TÜV services. Regional details on the industrial action will be shared.

Talks with TÜV SÜD AG commence on Friday. The contract expires on June 30, 2025, concurrently with the no-strike pledge. Ver.di is demanding an 8% monthly wage increase, amounting to at least €300, for a year, for the workforce of Germany's leading TÜV group. Ver.di negotiator Manuela Dietz explains, "The employees have steadfastly steered TÜV SÜD through crises, and it's high-time they received commensurate wage hikes."

The union's next move depends on the outcome of the first negotiations. Stay tuned for updates!
