Bytedance, the parent company of TikTok, is delving into the world of intelligent automotive solutions with its project "Doubao Auto." In contrast, Huawei is making strides with its HarmonyOS intelligent driving software.

Bytedance's "Doubao Auto" Focuses on Intelligent Cockpit Systems

Bytedance's cloud and AI services platform, Volcano Engine, will be integrated into the "Doubao Auto" project. This integration aims to enhance user experience by developing AI-based smart cockpits and personalized AI assistants. The project primarily focuses on intelligent automotive cockpit systems rather than full autonomous or intelligent driving technology.

Volcano Engine is collaborating with SAIC Motor to develop an AI cockpit product based on the Doubao large model. The AI cockpit product offers multimodal perception and functions as a personalized assistant capable of anticipating user intentions. Bytedance, however, officially denies any plans to enter the autonomous or intelligent driving market directly.

Huawei's HarmonyOS: A Comprehensive Intelligent Driving Platform

On the other hand, Huawei's HarmonyOS intelligent driving software is a more comprehensive platform that supports a wide ecosystem, including autonomous driving capabilities alongside in-car connectivity and operating system functions for vehicles. HarmonyOS aims to deliver a fully integrated intelligent vehicle experience encompassing both the smart cockpit and autonomous driving, positioning Huawei as a strong competitor in intelligent driving solutions.

A Comparative Analysis

Bytedance’s "Doubao Auto" can be seen as a complementary intelligent cockpit solution, leveraging AI and cloud, whereas Huawei provides a more integrated OS-level intelligent driving ecosystem. Bytedance is focusing on cockpit intelligence and personalized functions, partially to complement vehicle manufacturers’ capabilities, while Huawei provides a more comprehensive intelligent driving software platform, including both cockpit and autonomous driving functionalities.

Expanding Horizons in the Automotive Sector

Major automotive manufacturers such as Changan Automobile, GAC Aion, and Lynk & Co are clients of Volcano Engine in the automotive sector. The "Doubao Auto" project is an extension of cloud services toward intelligent vehicle terminal solutions. It's worth noting that 16 car manufacturers and regulators in China are also boosting car buying transparency via a centralized digital platform.

The MG4, a new car model, has debuted with a semi-solid state battery and pre-sales have started at 10,100 USD in China. Huawei's Shangjie H5 EREV crossover has been revealed with over 230 km of EV range in China, further expanding the competitive landscape in the automotive industry.

In conclusion, Bytedance and Huawei are making significant strides in the intelligent automotive sector, each offering unique solutions tailored to complement the evolving needs of the industry.
