The Shangjie H5 EREV and Deepal S07 EREV, two mid-size electric SUVs from China, have recently been making waves in the automotive industry. Let's take a closer look at their electric ranges and fuel consumption.
Under the CLTC (China Light Duty Vehicle Test Cycle), the Shangjie H5 EREV offers up to 230 km of electric-only range, while the Deepal S07 EREV offers an electric range between 215 km and 285 km. This indicates that the Shangjie H5 EREV's electric range is within the lower to mid-range of the Deepal S07's electric range spectrum under the same test cycle.
However, the Shangjie H5 EREV boasts a very competitive overall mixed range of over 1,300 km, which is notably high for this segment. This impressive figure is due to the vehicle's 1.5-liter naturally aspirated internal combustion engine that acts as a generator under the hood, providing additional power when the battery is depleted.
The Deepal S07, on the other hand, does not have such a backup system, relying solely on its electric motor for power. The Deepal S07 crossover is offered with a ternary NMC (nickel-manganese-cobalt) battery pack from CATL, whereas the Shangjie H5 EREV adopts a 32.6 kWh LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery, weighing 255 kg, according to the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
In terms of fuel consumption with a depleted battery, both vehicles are quite similar, with the Shangjie H5 EREV reporting 5.19 liters per 100 km and the Deepal S07 EREV reporting 5.2 liters per 100 km, as per MIIT's data.
The Shangjie H5, a joint project between Huawei and SAIC, is the fifth brand under the Huawei umbrella. It features a clean front-end design with an active air intake and thin headlights, conventional door handles, and a single taillight unit. The vehicle also offers a more powerful BEV (battery electric vehicle) option with a 180 kW (241 hp) electric motor and a CATL-made ternary NMC pack.
In summary, the Shangjie H5 EREV's electric range is comparable but slightly lower than the upper range of the Deepal S07 EREV under CLTC conditions, while its total driving range is very high at over 1,300 km. The Shangjie H5 EREV stands as a strong rival in the segment regarding fuel consumption.
The Shangjie H5 EREV and Deepal S07 EREV, two mid-size electric SUVs from China, both have impressive electric ranges, with the Shangjie offering up to 230 km, and the Deepal offering between 215 km and 285 km under the CLTC test cycle. While the Shangjie H5 EREV utilizes a 1.5-liter internal combustion engine as a generator for extended driving ranges, the Deepal S07 relies solely on its electric motor.
In terms of fuel consumption, both vehicles are quite similar, with the Shangjie H5 EREV reporting 5.19 liters per 100 km and the Deepal S07 EREV reporting 5.2 liters per 100 km. Interestingly, the Shangjie H5, a collaboration between Huawei and SAIC, also offers a more powerful BEV option with a larger electric motor and a ternary NMC pack like the Deepal S07, but with a different battery type, LFP.
This competition in the automotive industry between electric vehicles, such as the Shangjie H5 EREV and Deepal S07 EREV, demonstrates the growing influence of technology and finance, especially in the transportation sector, impacting the lifestyle of consumers.
