Kaufland's Dormagen Market: Construction Delayed Until 2026
Kaufland's plans for a new market in Dormagen have seen several changes. The initial building permit was approved in December 2022, but the project has faced delays. The latest news, as of September 2025, indicates that construction has not yet begun.
Kaufland initially submitted a revised planning application in October 2022. The city approved the building permit for a 3,530 square meter consumer market with 218 parking spaces later that year. However, in autumn 2024, Kaufland informed the city of a delay, pushing the start of construction to 2026.
The project, aiming to revitalize the shopping location on 'Unter den Hecken' street and strengthen the city center, has faced several setbacks. Demolition of the existing building was originally planned for 2023, with construction to begin in 2024. Kaufland has been working with the city administration to address these issues, including inquiries about construction site setup and improvements to the new building's facade and bicycle parking spaces. An application for an extension of the building permit is currently under review.
As of September 2025, the construction project for the new Kaufland market at the Dormacenter is progressing, but no specific current or expected construction timelines have been published. Kaufland and the city of Dormagen continue to collaborate closely on this revitalization project, with the goal of enhancing the city center's shopping and supply offerings.
