Lawyer Thomas Ellrich from VOIGT SALUS law firm, who serves as the insolvency administrator for KFC Uerdingen 05 e.V.'s assets, has weighed the pros and cons of two potential plans for the ongoing insolvency proceedings. These choices have now been publicly shared with the relevant parties.

KFC's future is secure, as determined by the bankruptcy administrator.

Insolvency Administrator Chooses FuF Concept for KFC Uerdingen 05 e.V.

In a significant decision, the insolvency administrator of KFC Uerdingen 05 e.V. ("FuF") has opted for the Friends and Sponsors concept over an alternative proposal. The key factor influencing this choice was the secure financing of the FuF concept. Unlike the rival idea, which only had financing pledges on paper, FuF has already transferred the necessary funds for the upcoming Oberliga season in 2025/26 to the insolvency administrator.

This funding, inclusive of contributions towards the implementation of the planned insolvency plan, reduces the risk of financial shortfalls, especially considering that preparatory measures are required as early as June 2025 to guarantee proper planning for the ensuing steps. The competing proposal only promised funding from July 2025, making it impractical in the short term.

Furthermore, the FuF concept ensures the continuity of the youth work in conjunction with SC Krefeld, while the insolvency administrator has yet to receive binding assurances from other sports facilities.

Lawyer Thomas Ellrich emphasized that both concepts are comprehensive, addressing all necessary topics such as club and game operations organization and financing. He stressed that his decision was solely based on the responsibility towards creditors and the long-term interests of the club. A reliable financing basis, he argued, is vital for any sustainable solution serving the interests of all parties involved in the insolvency proceedings, a condition fulfilled in the FuF concept.

Regrettably, time constraints did not permit the involvement of club members in the decision-making process. With this decision, a crucial milestone toward the club's future viability has been reached. Further steps for concrete implementation will follow shortly.

City director and sports director of Krefeld, Markus Schön, welcomed the decision of the insolvency administrator, expressing satisfaction with the prospects for KFC Uerdingen, including the preservation of the club's vital youth work. The football association Niederrhein e.V., responsible for the Oberliga, also endorsed the decision of the insolvency administrator.

KFC Uerdingen, a German football club founded in 1905, has a rich history. The club, previously known as Bayer 05 Uerdingen, won the DFB-Pokal in 1985 and reached the European Cup semi-finals the following year. Their successes include victories in the Niederrhein Cup in 1982, 2001, and 2019. Currently, the club competes in the Regionalliga-West. The insolvency administrator's decision to choose the Friends and Sponsors concept for KFC Uerdingen 05 e.V. was influenced by the secure financing of the FuF concept, which includes funds for the 2025/26 Oberliga season and contributions towards the insolvency plan. This finance-related aspect offers a reliable basis for a sustainable solution that aligns with the long-term interests of the club. Moreover, the FuF concept ensures the continuity of the youth work in conjunction with SC Krefeld, a factor that was not guaranteed by the other sports facilities.
