Krasnodar Region Lags Behind 45 Other Russian Regions in Gasoline Accessibility

Let's dive into the financial struggle of fueling up in various Russian regions, based on their average monthly earnings! We're calculating how many liters of AI-92 gasoline each regional resident could purchase with their monthly salary.

Here's a quick rundown:

  1. Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Moscow, and Chukotka Autonomous Okrug: Residents of these regions can buy over 2,000 liters of AI-92 gasoline with their average monthly earnings, far exceeding the national average of 1,385 liters.
  2. Krasnodar Krai: Residents here can purchase 1,430 liters of AI-92 gasoline, placing 46th on our list.
  3. Rostov Oblast: With their salaries, residents can buy 968 liters, landing them in 59th place.
  4. Stavropol Krai, Adygea, and Crimea: On the lower end of the top half, these regions offer 876, 847, and 798 liters of gasoline, respectively.
  5. The Bottom Tier: Dagestan, Chechnya, and Ingushetia earn the unfortunate distinction of being last in the rankings, with 712, 678, and 640 liters of gasoline buyable per salary, respectively, according to RIA Novosti.

Insights:

Accounting for general trends, it's clear that car fuel affordability in Russia depends on multiple factors:

  1. Regional Fuel Prices: Price fluctuations exist across Russian regions due to, among others, transportation costs, local demand, and tax policies. For instance, as we saw with our top three regions, prices in remote areas like Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug can be substantially higher compared to nearby regions, such as Tyumen Oblast, that are closer to major supply routes.
  2. Economic Factors: National economic policies, including tax rates and subsidies, contribute to fuel affordability differences among regions.
  3. Location and Refineries: Being close to refineries tends to lower fuel prices, as was the case with the three top-ranked regions in our list. Conversely, regions with minimal refining capacity often have higher prices due to increased transportation costs.
  4. The high fuel affordability in regions like Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Moscow, and Chukotka Autonomous Okrug might be attributed to their proximity to refineries and lower transportation costs in the industry, a factor that influences fuel prices.
  5. On the other hand, regions such as Dagestan, Chechnya, and Ingushetia, which have lower fuel affordability, may face increased financial strain due to higher transportation costs in the transportation sector, tax policies that impact finance, and lower average salaries in the business sector.
