Latvia's Energy Efficiency Stars: Ogre Gym & Apartment Buildings Shine
Latvia's energy efficiency scene celebrated its achievements this year. Ogre State Gymnasium took top honours in the 'Most Energy Efficient Public Building in Latvia 2024' category. Meanwhile, two apartment buildings in Mārupe and Riga won first place in their respective nominations for newly built and renovated energy-efficient structures.
The Gymnasium's victory serves as a beacon for other public buildings to strive for better energy efficiency. The jury, evaluating various structures from small houses to large hospitals, recognised the school's outstanding efforts in reducing energy consumption.
In the residential sector, an apartment building at Liela Street 45 in Mārupe led the way for new constructions, while an apartment building at 90 Dzelzavas Street in Riga excelled in renovations. Both demonstrated exceptional energy efficiency, setting high standards for their peers.
Support for such initiatives is robust. More than €240 million in public funds and over €430 million from EU programmes are available to back energy efficiency projects. The jury assessed heating solutions, construction quality, sustainability, and ventilation systems to crown the winners.
The winners of these energy efficiency awards inspire other buildings to adopt similar practices. With substantial funding available, Latvia continues to promote energy efficiency and environmental friendliness in its built environment.
