Law firm Davis Wright Tremaine expands its ranks in Los Angeles with the addition of Partner Ben Gipson.
Davis Wright Tremaine (DWT) has announced the addition of Ben Gipson to its national employment services team in Los Angeles. Gipson, a seasoned employment law specialist with over 20 years of experience, brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in litigation and class action cases, particularly within the technology, media, sports, and entertainment sectors.
Gipson's extensive experience includes representing employers in complex and high-stakes employment litigation, such as class actions involving wage-and-hour disputes, sexual harassment, wrongful termination, discrimination, and confidentiality/trade secrets issues. He has a proven track record of handling cases before both state and federal courts and administrative agencies, including the EEOC, California Labor Commissioner, Department of Fair Employment and Housing, and the U.S. Department of Labor.
In addition to his litigation defense work, Gipson also advises clients on employment issues arising from business transactions, particularly mergers and acquisitions. His proactive approach includes conducting workplace trainings, audits, policy reviews, and sensitive internal investigations with an emphasis on risk management and mitigating litigation.
Julie Capell, Los Angeles partner-in-charge at DWT, expressed her delight at welcoming Gipson to the firm. Laura Sack, co-chair of DWT's employment services group, stated that she was thrilled to bring on Gipson to help clients navigate employment law issues in California. Mark Berry, co-chair of the practice, considered Gipson to be a great fit for the firm from a values standpoint.
Gipson's affinity for deal work is expected to support the growth in transactional matters at DWT in California. He holds a B.A. from Claremont McKenna College and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. Before joining DWT, he worked at DLA Piper.
Gipson is known for his client-first, firm-first, and colleagues-first approach as a senior lawyer. He takes seriously the responsibility to mentor, train, and develop others, and to deliver top-notch client service. He is also committed to pro bono work, helping West Coast non-profits with employment law compliance.
In his new role at DWT, Gipson will be part of a national employment services team that aligns well with his industry focus. He will provide both litigation defense and counseling services, often collaborating cross-functionally with former prosecutors for investigations and communications in sensitive workplace matters.
This is the fifth lateral partner to join the California employment group in the past 18 months, indicating DWT's strategic focus on industry verticals like tech, media, and entertainment. Gipson's addition to the team is expected to strengthen DWT's position in these sectors and provide clients with a comprehensive suite of employment law services.
