Leadership changes at APLM as new individuals are chosen

The Council of Associated Parishes for Liturgy and Mission (APLM) held its annual meeting from June 9 to 12, 2025, at the University of British Columbia. The event, which was supported by the Diocese of New Westminster and the Anglican Foundation of Canada, sparked widespread discussion and brought together local leaders and participants from various dioceses.

The featured presenter at the meeting was the Rev. Dr. Jesse Zink, Principal of Montreal Diocesan Theological College and Canon Theologian of the Diocese of Montreal. Dr. Zink's recent publication, Faithful, Creative, Hopeful: 15 Theses for Christians in a Crisis-Shaped World, served as a guiding theme for the gathering.

The meeting focused on the theme "Worship as Refuge, Resistance, and Regeneration." During the event, panel discussions were held on topics such as healing, resilience, and abiding faith, with local leaders sharing their experiences of being excluded and ignored by the church.

One unique aspect of the meeting was the daily practice of taking a sprig of fresh rosemary during morning prayer. This tradition was significant, as the Very Rev. Amy McCreath, outgoing President of APLM, wrote about the symbolism of rosemary in the conference.

The Council of Associated Parishes for Liturgy and Mission elected new leaders on June 12, 2025. The Rev. Dr. Samuel Torvend was elected as President, the Rev. Lucas Crossland as Vice President, the Rev. Celeste Geldreich as Secretary, the Rev. Philip Carr-Jones as Treasurer, and the Very Rev. Amy McCreath as Member-at-Large.

Plans were outlined to increase membership, strengthen communications, deepen cultural competency, and create more space for diverse voices. APLM also agreed to endorse and support recent ecumenical consultations and communion initiatives aimed at establishing a Feast Day for Creation or God the Creator in the Western liturgical calendar.

The public event culminated in an outdoor Eucharist, presided over by the Rev. Laurel Dykstra. Participants also visited St. Hilda's Sanctuary and Sparrowcreek Farm, an organic permaculture initiative on the outskirts of Vancouver.
