Leading battery manufacturer CATL signs a supply agreement with Vanda RE for electric vehicle battery supply.

In a significant stride towards sustainable energy development, Vanda RE, a joint venture company co-owned by Gurīn Energy and Gentari, has announced a partnership with CATL for the supply of 2.2 GWh of battery energy storage systems. This collaboration is for the Vanda Solar & Battery Project, a utility-scale solar-plus storage development in the Riau Islands, Indonesia [1][2].

Vanda RE is committed to developing the project to the highest technical and operating standards. The project, which integrates 2 GWp of installed solar photovoltaic capacity with 4.4 GWh of battery storage, is a key part of bilateral efforts between Indonesia and Singapore to establish a green economic corridor. This collaboration promotes the growth of clean energy, incentivizes investment in local manufacturing facilities, and strengthens Indonesia’s clean technology supply chains by encouraging top-tier companies like CATL to produce advanced battery technology domestically [1][3][4].

Gurīn Energy Pte Ltd, a renewable energy developer that is part of Gentari, will oversee the project's development, ownership, and operation. Gurīn Energy is focused on the development, ownership, and operation of solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems (BESS) assets [5]. Gentari, a Singapore-headquartered company focused on renewable energy, hydrogen, and green mobility, currently has approximately 8GW of solar, wind, and storage projects in various stages of development in Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, South Korea, and Japan [6].

The batteries for the Vanda Solar & Battery Project will be manufactured in CATL's factory in Karawang regency, West Java province, Indonesia. This local manufacturing will enable the project to meet Indonesia’s local content requirement (TKDN) and foster local industry development [1][3]. The project aligns with Indonesia’s increasing policy emphasis on renewable energy and energy storage expansion, supporting both countries’ climate goals and sustainable development agendas [4].

Gentari's team consists of approximately 100 people across North Asia and South-East Asia. The company aims to be the leading C&I and utility-scale renewable energy developer, hydrogen producer, and green mobility solutions partner in Asia Pacific [7]. With this partnership, Vanda RE and CATL are set to make a substantial impact on Indonesia's local content requirements, the green economy, and clean technology supply chains.
