Long-time industry veteran Shailesh Jejurikar, an alumnus of IIM Lucknow, assumes the CEO position at P&G following a 36-year tenure.
Procter & Gamble Announces New CEO and Executive Chairman
The Procter & Gamble Company (P&G) has announced significant changes in its leadership team. Current CEO, Jon R. Moeller, will be stepping down and taking on the role of Executive Chairman, effective January 1, 2026. He will be replaced by Shailesh Jejurikar, who is currently the Chief Operating Officer of P&G.
Jon R. Moeller's leadership at P&G has been highly commended for his role in one of the most significant transformations in the company's history. Under his tenure, P&G has undergone portfolio streamlining, productivity improvement, and a renewed strategic focus on superiority across brands and categories. Moeller will remain closely involved with the company, advising the leadership team and chairing the board.
Shailesh Jejurikar, a Mumbai native and IIM Lucknow graduate, joined P&G in 1989 as an assistant brand manager for Personal Health Care in India. Since then, he has held a succession of senior roles across North America, Europe, Asia, and Latin America. In his current role as Chief Operating Officer, Jejurikar has overseen the company's largest regions and categories. His elevation to CEO comes amid a wave of Indian executives taking top roles in global corporations, particularly in technology and consumer sectors.
The Procter & Gamble Company's board has nominated Jejurikar for election as a director at its annual shareholder meeting in October. This will make him the first Indian-born CEO in P&G's 187-year history. Shailesh Jejurikar has previously stated that India's demographic and economic momentum will only increase its strategic value.
P&G is navigating a volatile consumer environment, with uncertain consumer sentiment and potential trade-related impacts, particularly in the American market. The company trimmed its annual core earnings outlook this year due to these factors. However, Jejurikar's extensive experience and strategic vision are expected to guide P&G through these challenges.
Joe Jimenez, lead independent director of the P&G board, stated that a strong plan is in place for sustained success and now is the time to transition to Jejurikar as CEO. Moeller will continue to provide guidance and support in his new role as Executive Chairman.
More than 350 Indian expats are in global roles across P&G, highlighting the growing significance of India in the company's talent and market strategy. The country is one of P&G's top ten markets globally. With Jejurikar at the helm, P&G is poised to leverage India's potential and continue its successful journey.
