Augsburg's Major Engine Maker Leaves Behind Iconic Brand MAN for Clean Energy-Focused Everllence

Augsburg-based firm discards recognition symbol of famous MAN brand name - Manufacturer MAN, based in Augsburg, erases brand name from company's identity

Hop aboard as we delve into the latest transformation of MAN Energy Solutions into the more eco-friendly moniker, Everllence. Founded way back when in Augsburg, Germany, this engine titan with approximately 15,000 employees globally has outgrown its roots and is now heading full speed on a green highway.

“Why Everllence?” you might ask? Because this powerhouse now offers more than just engines, turbomachinery, and Diesels. They're diving headfirst into renewable energy solutions, aiming high with large heat pumps and other climate-saving technologies. So, let's celebrate this rebirth with the company's new name!

The name itself is a creative medley of ‘ever' (forever) and ‘Excellence'. This smooth union represents the company's dedication to providing top-notch, eternal solutions to combat climate change.

As for its former long-time identifier, MAN (Machine Factory Augsburg-Nuremberg), that'll no longer be proudly displayed on the company's headquarters—it's time for Everllence to take center stage. That being said, don't forget about the Munich-based bus and truck manufacturer going by the same name—they're still around, kicking some tires!

In the days of yore, MAN was famous for making large engines for cargo vessels and power plants. But as the winds of change sweep across the energy industry, Everllence is now fixing its gaze on the horizon, eager to expand its fleet with hydrogen technology.

Amidst all these new developments, the company remains under the Volkswagen Group umbrella. In the past, there have been rumors about Volkswagen considering severing ties with their Bavarian machine-building subsidiary. However, those murmurs have died down for now. The Volkswagen Group and Everllence have agreed to stay partners for the next four years, with recent reports hinting at possible sale discussions.

Bye-bye, Diesel (Sorta)

Remember when the company dropped the Diesel part of its name in 2018? That was because the future- forward crowd deemed Diesel a less-than-attractive label. Although MAN proudly worked alongside Rudolf Diesel (inventor of the diesel engine) and played a significant role in the 20th century's internal combustion engine revolution, the name Diesel just didn't feel modern and sustainable enough for the company's vision.

History, Rebranding, and Beyond

The journey of MAN Energy Solutions from MAN Diesel & Turbo in 2018 has been one of expansion and future-focused innovation. They've ventured into hydrogen production, heat pumps, and carbon capture systems to tackle climate change head-on.

The rebranding to Everllence in 2025 showcases the company's commitment to clean and green technologies. This shift aligns with their “Moving big things to zero” strategy—a pledge to decarbonize and supply next-gen clean energy solutions.

In the wake of MAN Energy Solutions' transformation into Everllence, the company is expanding its scope beyond traditional engines and Diesel technology, also investing in vocational training programs for renewable energy solutions and clean technology in the community. As they move towards a greener future, Everllence aims to partner with the finance and technology sectors to drive innovation in energy, particularly focusing on hydrogen technology and industry applications.
