Telecommunications company Megafon initiates nationwide rollout of SIM-card sales in multipurpose centers, starting with the Leningrad region. Over forty regional MFC service centers are scheduled to be included by June's end in the initial phase.

Igor Glebov, Director of the Development Department at MegaFon, has emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating that simplifying the customer journey for new clients, particularly foreign citizens, is a top priority for the company. The initial pilot location for this project is the "Vsevolozhsky" business office, with plans to expand it to all state service centers of this MFC by the end of the month.

As per the current "Telecommunications" law, contracts for mobile communication services with foreign citizens or stateless persons are subject to new rules from January 1 of this year. These rules require foreign citizens to obtain a notarized translation of their identity document and an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (INN). However, the cooperation between MegaFon and the MFC will significantly reduce the activation time for foreigners when concluding new contracts, making the process more efficient and less time-consuming.

Registration on the State Services portal and confirmation is required, followed by registration in the Unified Biometric System (UBS). Once these steps are completed, foreign citizens can activate their MegaFon SIM cards without the usual delays. The project is expected to be expanded to other regions of the Russian Federation in the future, benefiting a larger number of foreign citizens and stateless persons.

This collaboration is particularly beneficial for foreign citizens staying in Russia for a short period (2-3 months), who often face difficulties in completing the necessary procedures due to time constraints. By providing a single-point service for documentation and activation, this partnership aims to make the process more accessible, with clear guidelines and support available for foreign citizens who may not be familiar with local regulations.
