Monthly retirement pension in Russia surpasses 25,000 rubles mark
Slow Increase in Russian Pensions Causes Concern for Elderly
Russia's pension system is experiencing a modest growth, with pensions and benefits increasing by approximately 1.5% in real terms in early 2025. However, this growth rate falls short of wage growth and real income growth in other sectors, indicating a relatively slow rise in pension amounts compared to other income sources.
In the Krasnodar region, specific pension figures were not readily available, but data suggests that pensions in various Russian regions often hover around or below the national average. Moreover, many regional pension levels are linked to the regional minimum living wage (subsistence minimum).
The Social Fund of Russia reported the average old-age pension in Russia as of July 1st, 2023, at 25,800 rubles for a single monthly payment. In the Krasnodar region, non-working pensioners receive a social pension of 8,824.08 rubles. With a top-up due to the social pension being less than the regional minimum living wage, elderly people in the Krasnodar region receive 14,641 rubles.
This top-up is given regardless of the pensioner's insurance history, and it is important to note that the old-age pension figures do not account for inflation or cost of living adjustments specific to the Krasnodar region. As a result, real purchasing power for pensioners in the Krasnodar region remains limited, especially considering inflation still around 8.8% as of July 2025.
In contrast, the average old-age pension in Russia, as of July 1st, is 25,098 rubles. The old-age pension for working pensioners in Russia is 22,100 rubles. In the Kuban region of the Krasnodar branch, the average size of the old-age insurance pension is 23,133 rubles after indexing.
These figures highlight the disparities in real income growth and purchasing power across regions in Russia. The trend suggests that pension levels in the Krasnodar region likely mirror the national pattern of limited increases combined with inflation and living wage challenges. As such, the standard of living for pensioners in the Krasnodar region may continue to be negatively affected.
