New Intersections Introduced in Almaty - Details Provided by Local Police
In the city of Almaty, several construction projects are ongoing to overhaul the transportation system. Three transport interchanges are being built: Prospect Ryскулова - Ulitsa Yemtsova, Prospect Seifullina - Ulitsa Jansugurova, Ulitsa Bukhtarminskaya - Kulzhinsky Trakt, as reported by Almaty.tv, citing Polisia.kz.
Two new streets are being opened: Prospect Abaya from Ulitsa Auezova to the city border, and Ulitsa Sain from Prospect Ryskuula to Ulitsa Akyn Sara. The work on Prospect Suiuimbaya from Ulitsa B. Khmelnitskogo to Ulitsa Sholokhova is complete, including the construction of a left-turn exit from Ulitsa Sholokhova, spanning 1.035 km. The opening of Prospect Abaya involves the construction of a six-lane road (three lanes in each direction), stretching 3 km, from Ulitsa Yassawi to the city border, with sidewalks and bicycle paths on both sides. Also, a transport interchange will be built at the intersection with Ulitsa Auezova. The opening of Ulitsa Sain includes the construction of a six-lane road (three lanes in each direction) and two-lane local access roads, 3.2 km long, with sidewalks and bicycle paths on both sides from Prospect Ryskulova to Ulitsa Akyn Sara.
Five overpasses are being planned for construction. Currently, the construction of eight overpasses is underway. Road construction is ongoing in eight microdistricts, on 304 streets, covering a total length of 84 km.
To avoid head-on collisions of vehicles, work is in progress to install road barriers on the dividing strip, spanning 3.5 km, on Prospect Ryskulova from Ulitsa Kuderina to Ulitsa Bokeykhanov. In addition, work is underway to develop project and estimate documents for the construction of 70 regulated pedestrian crossings and 30 traffic signal objects, as well as the installation of LED lighting for 70 unregulated pedestrian crossings. The implementation of these projects is planned for 2021.
Furthermore, work is in progress to install dedicated bus lanes, with a total length of 27 km.
Previously, it was reported that traffic lights in Almaty will function differently.
As for broader infrastructure developments, efforts are being made to enhance the socio-economic conditions in the Almaty region. Though specific details on new transport interchanges, roads, overpasses, and pedestrian crossings are scarce, ongoing projects aim to boost access, facilitate services, and contribute to economic growth by streamlining transportation between Western Europe and Western China.
Moreover, there are plans for constructing a 130 km electrified railway line as part of the Almaty Railway Bypass project, with South Korea's RETD Co. expected to build a Light Rail Transit (LRT) system connecting Almaty and Qonaev, using advanced maglev technology. However, specific updates on these projects are not available in the latest reports.
In the ongoing infrastructure developments in Almaty, a transport interchange is also planned at the opening of Prospect Abaya, intersection with Ulitsa Auezova. The economic growth of the region is further expected to be facilitated by building a 130 km electrified railway line, which is part of the Almaty Railway Bypass project and will potentially include a Light Rail Transit (LRT) system using advanced maglev technology.
