New model variations with extended range introduced for S05 sport utility vehicle by Deepal
Deepal's Long-Range S05 SUV Offers Impressive Specs and Competitive Range
Deepal, a sub-brand of Changan Automobile, has introduced three new long-range variants of its S05 SUV. These variants are equipped with a battery supplied by CATL, most likely an upgraded lithium iron phosphate (LFP) pack, offering a claimed range of up to 620 km under the CLTC testing cycle.
The long-range S05 is powered by a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 175 kW of power and 320 Nm of torque. Despite the larger battery and extra weight, it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds and reaches a top speed of 180 km/h.
Interestingly, the long-range S05 positions itself as a competitor to the Tesla Model 3. However, it retains the same fast-charging capability as the standard model, allowing it to charge from 30% to 80% in about 30 minutes.
The S05 SUV offers both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) options. The prices for the new S05 variants start at RMB 129,900 ($18,020), followed by RMB 139,900 and RMB 149,900. The prices for the four BEV variants of the S05 range from RMB 119,900 to RMB 145,900. The two EREV variants of the S05 have starting prices of RMB 135,900 and RMB 145,900.
Deepal, which was announced in 2022, has seen significant growth. From January to July 2024, the brand delivered 170,405 vehicles, marking a year-on-year increase of 69.42 percent. By some point in 2024, Deepal had delivered 400,000 vehicles. The brand aims to sell 500,000 vehicles in 2025.
The S05 SUV measures 4,620 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,600 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,880 mm. It was launched in October 2024.
