Nissan Announces Imminent Job Reductions at European Facility
Nissan Announces Job Cuts at European Regional Headquarters
Nissan, the Japanese automotive giant, has announced plans to cut jobs at its European regional headquarters located in Montigny-le-Bretonneux, France. The job cuts are part of a global restructuring effort announced by CEO Ivan Espinosa in April 2025, aiming to reduce costs, cut about 15% of Nissan’s global workforce, and bring the company back to stability.
The regional office in France is responsible for Nissan’s operations not only in Europe but also in Africa, the Middle East, India, and Oceania. Significant organizational changes at this hub could affect Nissan’s management and coordination across these regions.
The consultation process with staff representatives at Nissan Automotive Europe's Montigny-le-Bretonneux office began this week, and voluntary separation talks are underway. The consultations are expected to be concluded in October, pending ratification with the authorities. The final decision regarding job cuts will be reached and communicated to staff in November.
So far, there has been no mention of any job cuts at Nissan's only European production plant at Sunderland in northeast England. The company did not provide specific details about the number of job cuts or the nature of the changes at the Montigny-le-Bretonneux office.
The restructuring includes reducing production capacity by nearly 30%, closing several manufacturing plants in Japan and Mexico, and shrinking the manufacturing footprint from 17 to 10 sites worldwide. Nissan’s workforce in these regions totals around 19,000 employees.
The job cuts at the European regional headquarters form part of a wider strategic overhaul that may have ripple effects on Nissan’s operations across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, India, and Oceania. However, no specific production plant job cuts have been announced in Europe at this time.
Nissan is encouraging employees to participate in the voluntary separation talks and is providing support during this difficult time. The company has no further information to share about the consultation process at this time.

The job cuts at Nissan's European regional headquarters could potentially impact the company's management and coordination across various regions, such as Europe, Africa, the Middle East, India, and Oceania, in the automotive industry. These changes, along with finance-related restructuring, may influence the overall transportation sector associated with vehicle production.
