Obstruction in Elbe Tunnel Resolved: Clear Passage Restored

The Elbtunnel on the A7 experienced an unexpected disruption as the Autobahn GmbH confirmed damage to fire safety equipment in tube 1. Early Friday morning assessments indicated a fire protection plate on the ceiling had been damaged, possibly by a passing truck tarpaulin or heavy goods transport.

Following the discovery, the affected tube was promptly closed for repairs. As of now, the estimated duration for these repairs remains uncertain. In response to the closure, tube 2 was adapted for two-lane traffic flowing towards the north.

The unforeseen incident led to noticeable traffic congestion, according to ADAC's reports. Motorists faced at least an hour of additional travel time on the A7 between Hannover and Flensburg from the Hamburg-Südwest junction to the Hamburg-Othmarschen exit during the morning commute.

An update on the Autobahn GmbH's website indicated that repairs were completed more swiftly than anticipated. All affected plates in tube 1 have been replaced, and fault assessments on the tunnel ceiling are now complete. Regular operation has been resumed, with three lanes available in each direction. Due to the unexpected disruption in tube 1, temporary adjustments were made in the affected industry of transportation, with tube 2 adapting for two-lane traffic. Meanwhile, the estimated repair time for the damaged fire protection equipment in tube 1, falling under the realm of finance and industry, has seen some shortening due to improved efficiency.
