A mysterious shine on the water surface of Schäfersee in Berlin-Reinickendorf caught the attention of locals on Friday. The fire department Spandau-South was promptly called to the scene to investigate.

Upon arrival, the fire department confirmed the presence of an oil slick at the Schäfersee. To tackle the oil film, they used a specially equipped truck called "Oilwehr".

The oil slick covered an area of approximately 5,000 square meters, and a thin, oil-containing film was spreading over the affected area. To prevent the oil film from spreading further, oil skimmers were employed, and an active oil barrier was set up to contain the spill.

The fire department responded with a team of eight personnel and three vehicles. Specially trained personnel accompanied the "Oilwehr" truck to manage the situation effectively.

The nature of the oil slick's origin remains unclear, but it was not due to an external spill. Instead, it was caused by a leak from a breakdown in the sewage system.

The fire department began to gradually suck up the harmful oil film, and they will coordinate the re-checking of the site with the responsible district office and the environmental authority in the next few days. The site will be checked again to ensure that the oil slick has been fully contained and cleaned up.

The discovery of the oil slick serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining the local infrastructure to prevent such incidents from happening again. The fire department and relevant authorities will work together to address the issue and ensure the safety of the Schäfersee and its surrounding environment.

The mysterious shine on Schäfersee was revealed to be an oil slick, originating from a leak in the sewage system. To combat this environmental crisis, the fire department used specialized equipment like the Oilwehr and oil skimmers. This incident underscores the significance of maintaining infrastructure in the industry sector to avoid similar accidents and protect the environment in the future.
