A Generous Aid Package for Kazakh Elderly Announced

In the spirit of the upcoming Day of the Elderly, set to occur Nationwide this October, a whopping 2.3 billion tenge (approximately $5.1 million USD) will be dished out as one-time financial aid to 216,700 senior citizens in several key regions, according to the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population.

The elderly in Nur-Sultan city, along with selected districts across Akmola, Aktobe, Atyrau, Karaganda, Mangystau, Pavlodar, North Kazakhstan, and Turkestan regions will be the fortunate recipients of this financial boost.

The grand affair will kick off on October 1st, initiating a month-long campaign dedicated to the elderly across all regions in Kazakhstan. A bevy of events focusing on caring for the elderly are on the agenda.

Delving into the 2020 fiscal year, it was revealed that the government allocated over 32 billion 670 million tenge for various types of social support for the elderly—excluding pension payments.

October 1st, recognized as the Day of the Elderly in Kazakhstan, was established at the 45th session of the UN General Assembly as the International Day of Older Persons back in 1990. Approximately 2 million senior citizens call Kazakhstan home.
