Forests, forklifts, and industrial efficiency? Seems like an odd pairing, right? Not with Jungheinrich on the scene! In 2022, this titan of the intralogistics industry teamed up with our organization, demonstrating a commitment to restoring our planet's lungs while maintaining its reputation for precision and efficiency.
Shaking Up the Industry
Founded in 1953 in Hamburg, Jungheinrich AG is one of the world's leading intralogistics companies. With eco-friendly practices often taking a backseat in the industry, Jungheinrich's sustainable technology and devotion to sustainability set a new standard. They've revolutionized warehouse storage with lithium-ion vehicles that emit up to 21% less CO2, and their automatic stacker cranes optimize space by enabling taller, narrower buildings, lessening the need for expansive structures.
Stepping Up for the Planet
The impact of industrial expansion is a grave concern, particularly in Africa, which faces the highest deforestation rates of any continent on Earth. With an average deforestation rate of around 3.9 million hectares per year, the ecological consequences extend far beyond the continent. Thankfully, corporate leaders like Jungheinrich are taking a more conscious approach, stepping up to support interventions and pave the way for a more sustainable future. Our organization, with our focus on holistic ecosystem restoration, has planted over 250,000 trees since our first tree planting event in 2011, thanks in part to collaborations with eco-conscious businesses such as Jungheinrich.
Growing Together, Trees and All
In 2022, Jungheinrich pledged to support our Forests For Life project, committing to sponsor trees for every sale. This partnership has led to the planting of over 2500 trees in our two-year collaboration thus far! The team is also eager to lend a hand in our Urban Greening Programme, and they have plans to join us for a hands-on Garden Day soon.
Jungheinrich's efforts extend to the Uilenkraal Valley Restoration Project in South Africa, home to the Platbos Forest, the southernmost Afro-temperate forest in Africa. This unique forest are home to ancient 1000-year-old trees and endangered species like the Cape Leopard. Platbos Forest guardian, Francois, spoke warmly of Jungheinrich's continued support: "We are blessed to have them, and I don't think that they truly appreciate how much happiness it brings to those of us who live here."
More Than Trees
The Forest for Life project focuses on sustainable solutions to local issues, with a particular emphasis on people, the planet, and the climate. Jungheinrich's support goes beyond planting trees. They've also partnered with our organization on reforestation initiatives in Brazil, and their commitment to sustainability has earned them the Platinum EcoVadis Award, placing them among the world's top 1% of most sustainable companies. Furthermore, Jungheinrich is aiming to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, and they're working closely with the Science Based Targets Initiative to make it happen.
