Pedigree Ovens Powers Up with Solar Panels, Aims for 100% Renewable Energy
Pedigree Ovens and The Pound Bakery, a leading producer of natural dog food and treats since 1996, has taken a significant step towards sustainability. The company, a subsidiary of Unilever, has installed a massive solar panel array at its 212,000-square-foot facility in 2018.
Spanning approximately 4.5 acres, the solar installation consists of a 1.703 kW system featuring 4,386 modules. Designed by Simpleray, the system took three months to complete and was unveiled during National Clean Energy Week. The solar panels, arranged in the shape of a paw print and dog bone, are a nod to the company's love for dogs.
The solar panels are set to produce over 2,044,000 kWh of electricity annually. This not only helps the company save on energy costs but also offsets a substantial 1,456 tons of greenhouse gases. Looking ahead, the company expects the panels to generate a total of 51,000,000 kWh over the next 25 years, preventing 9,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions. This means the solar panels will power 100% of the company's yearly energy needs.
Pedigree Ovens and The Pound Bakery's commitment to sustainability is evident in its solar panel installation. By harnessing the power of the sun, the company is reducing its environmental impact while ensuring a steady supply of energy for its operations. This initiative aligns with Unilever's broader sustainability goals and demonstrates the company's dedication to responsible business practices.
