A petition has been launched in France to urge the government to maintain support for the night train service, despite renegotiated subsidies. The service, which connects Paris to Berlin and Vienna, is a popular option with an average occupancy rate of 70 percent, peaking at 90 percent during the summer months.

The French government has expressed dissatisfaction with SNCF and its partners, claiming they have failed to establish a daily service to ensure the night train's economic viability. This criticism comes as the government considers withdrawing its subsidy for the service, potentially leading to its termination by December 2026.

The night train service, launched in December 2023, offers a 12-hour overnight trip between Paris and Berlin/Vienna. However, the French government is now questioning its support for the service due to financial constraints. While there is no specific petition demanding daily trains, an initiative called 'Oui au train de nuit' is gathering signatures to preserve the night train connections. Without French government support, rail operators ÖBB and DB may struggle to continue the service due to financial losses.

The future of the Paris-Berlin/Vienna night train service hangs in the balance as the French government considers ending its subsidy. A petition urges the government to continue supporting the service, which has proven popular with passengers. The withdrawal of government support could lead to the service's discontinuation, potentially causing financial difficulties for rail operators ÖBB and DB.
