Petrobras Initiates Offshore Platform Electrification Project to Cut Emissions

Petrobras, Brazil's leading energy and petroleum company, has initiated a significant step towards sustainability. They have partnered with Power Consulting to evaluate the feasibility of electrifying their offshore oil and gas platforms, aiming to reduce their carbon footprint.

Currently, Petrobras' platforms rely on offshore-extracted natural gas for energy, which contributes to greenhouse gas emissions. The project, titled 'Assessment of Electrical Interconnection of Petrobras Platforms with the Onshore Power System', aims to connect these platforms to the mainland electricity grid using renewable sources like hydroelectric, wind, or solar power.

Power Consulting, led by Global Product Group Manager Daniel Galvan, will support Petrobras in this endeavor. They will conduct comprehensive studies and analyses to reduce operational emissions. The consulting firm will assess costs, offshore interconnection options, technical aspects, and outline the project's scope and timelines. Siemens has also agreed to collaborate on this study.

Petrobras' commitment to a more sustainable energy system is evident in this project. By potentially switching to renewable energy sources, they can drastically reduce CO emissions from their offshore operations, leading the way towards a just energy transition.
