Latest AAA Fuel Report Shows Steady Gasoline and EV Charging Prices

The latest AAA Fuel Report, as of August 2025, reveals that the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline remains steady around $3.14 to $3.15, with slight fluctuations. Meanwhile, the national average cost per kilowatt-hour for public EV charging has remained steady at 36 cents.

Gasoline Prices by State

The most expensive gasoline markets are dominated by coastal and western states, including California, Hawaii, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Alaska, Illinois, Utah, and Washington, D.C., where prices hover around $4.49 to $4.50 per gallon. On the other hand, the least expensive gasoline markets are mostly in the South and Midwest, with Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Alabama, South Carolina, Kentucky, and New Mexico featuring among the cheapest states.

EV Charging Costs by State

The most expensive states for EV public charging include West Virginia, Alaska, Hawaii, Tennessee, Montana, South Carolina, New Hampshire, Alabama, Arkansas, and Louisiana, where per-kWh costs range from 46 to 52 cents. In contrast, the least expensive states for EV charging are Kansas, Missouri, Maryland, Utah, Nebraska, Delaware, Colorado, North Carolina, Vermont, Washington, D.C., and Iowa, where per-kWh costs range from 25 to 28 cents.

Oil Market Updates

Crude oil prices have inched upward slightly recently, correlating with a modest increase in gas demand through the summer driving season. However, the increase has not been significant enough to cause a substantial rise in pump prices. Summer gas prices in 2025 are comparable to those in 2021, showing a relatively stable market despite seasonal demand increases.
