Prominent law firm Arnold & Porter has recruited a former Department of Justice official.

Benjamin C. Mizer, a distinguished legal figure with over two decades of experience in both private practice and senior government positions, has joined Arnold & Porter's complex litigation practice in Washington, D.C.

Mizer's career is marked by significant achievements and involvement in various high-profile cases and government investigations. His legal expertise spans across a broad spectrum, including appellate law, complex litigation, government regulations, civil litigation, civil rights, and environmental law.

One of Mizer's most notable accomplishments includes arguing three cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, securing two unanimous victories. This demonstrates his strong appellate skills and ability to handle complex constitutional and regulatory issues.

Mizer has also held key positions at the Department of Justice (DOJ), such as head of the Civil Division, head of the Office of Legal Counsel, counsellor to the Attorney General, and Solicitor General of the State of Ohio. During his tenure, he was the Acting Associate Attorney General, a position that placed him at the forefront of major government litigation and policy decisions.

In addition to his government service, Mizer has been involved in significant administrative law cases, such as the challenge to the "most favored nations" drug-pricing scheme for Medicare on behalf of a pharmaceutical trade association (PhRMA). He also secured a landmark Supreme Court victory blocking the addition of a citizenship question to the 2020 Census.

Mizer's litigation experience includes defending Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rules, challenging environmental regulations, and representing clients in regulatory disputes across various industries.

Mizer's contributions at Arnold & Porter will be significant across various litigation practices, including financial fraud, antitrust, environmental, civil rights, and congressional investigations and public policy. Ken Chernof, co-chair of the firm's complex litigation group, stated that Mizer's extensive experience strengthens the practice's ability to meet the evolving needs of clients.
