Let's Get the Classic Armored Core Trilogy Back in Action!
Get ready, watchethers! The timeless Armored Core triad of games on the PlayStation One is about to rock your world on PlayStation Plus next week. We're talkin' about the OG games: Armored Core, Armored Core Project Phantasma, and Armored Core Master of Arena. And guess what? For the last two games, this is their European debut - share that sweet news with your mates!
Over on the PlayStation Blog, they’ve dropped some deets about other titles in the series, but let's face it, the Armored Core series has always had a love affair with Sony and the PlayStation. After the release of Armored Core VI in 2023, this comeback is definitely intriguing. It’ll be a fantastic chance for Sony and FromSoftware to take stock of the series' popularity and consider remastering the oldies but goodies.
With Armored Core VI's sales suggesting there’s a market for these bad boys, most modern players may not have had a chance to dive into the PlayStation 1 and 2 eras of Armored Core. So, here's your opportunity to suit up and join the fight!
Now, while the PlayStation Blog did use the term "mechs," the correct term is "mecha." And, yes, it might not delve too deep into the mind of Shoji Kawamori when he came up with the idea of an "armored core," but hey, we'll take it! It's fantastic that PlayStation is acknowledging these games, especially beyond Japan.
As for newcomers, be mindful that the controls in the original Armored Core trilogy, as well as many of the PlayStation 2 games, can be a bit intricate. Don’t get discouraged, though. Take it one step at a time, practice, and before you know it, you'll be piloting like a pro!
Modern gamers are no strangers to complex control systems, so patience is key here. Lastly, for those who've been rolling with Armored Core since 1997, like yours truly, this revival brings out the teenage excitement in us all!
