Puma's CEO, Bjorn Gulden, is stepping down from his position.
In a surprising turn of events, Puma has announced that Arne Freundt (42) will take over as the company's CEO from January 1, 2023. The current CEO, Björn Gulden (57), has decided not to renew his contract with Puma, effective at the end of 2022.
Gulden, who has been with Puma for nine years, has expressed interest in an operational role for the next five to ten years. His departure from Puma comes at a time when he is set to take on a new challenge as the CEO of Adidas, a position he was recently appointed to.
Adidas announced Gulden as its new CEO, marking a significant leadership change following his departure from Puma. His leadership at Adidas is seen as a key part of the company's turnaround strategy in recent years. The move is also recognised and discussed in the context of navigating the current volatile global business landscape. However, it is worth noting that Gulden has not received any offers from Adidas as of the report.
Freundt, who is currently a member of Puma's board, joined the company as sales chief last year. He has now signed a four-year contract to become Puma's CEO. Freundt's contract with Puma was deemed too short for his desired operational role, which may have contributed to Gulden's decision to leave.
Puma, a well-known sports apparel and footwear company, is based in Herzogenaurach, Germany. The company's new CEO, Freundt, is expected to bring fresh perspectives and strategies to the table as he takes over the reins from Gulden.
Kasper Rorsted (60) remains the CEO of Adidas. It is unclear if Gulden will be succeeding Rorsted at Adidas in the future.
This transition marks a significant change for both Puma and Adidas, with two experienced leaders moving between the two companies. The impact of these changes on the sports apparel and footwear industry remains to be seen.
In connection with this shift, Freundt's new role as Puma's CEO may involve a reevaluation of the company's financial strategies, given his background in business. Simultaneously, Gulden's move to Adidas as their CEO could signal a renewed focus on sports marketing and product development, considering Adidas's position in the global sports industry.
