Today's scoop: McLaren jumps into the hypercar game with Project: Endurance.

Straight from the Le Mans race weekend, McLaren shared glimpses of their upcoming LMDh contender. Unlike other manufacturers, like Ferrari and Aston Martin, who built bespoke hypercars for competition, McLaren opted for the less expensive yet technically restrictive LMDh route, like Porsche, Cadillac, and BMW.

In a move that sets it apart from the competition, McLaren offered an exclusive ownership experience to a select group of deep-pocketed enthusiasts. Customers purchasing the hypercar will have an opportunity to dive into the car's testing and development phases, work alongside McLaren engineers, and be part of the 2027 FIA World Endurance Championship campaign, including the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans. Think of it as not just buying a car but investing in a front-row seat to McLaren's endurance racing future!

As for the car itself, it looks like any other LMDh chassis at this stage, with the front end of a McLaren Senna attached. Don't let the standard looks fool you, though. The powertrain will feature a twin-turbo V6 engine, similar to the one in the Artura, with hybrid assist as required by LMDh rules. Look for around 671 horsepower under the hood.

Mark your calendars, race fans! Two more years until McLaren takes to the track. By then, Genesis and Ford will also be a part of the WEC, and the racing grid is already bursting at the seams with talent. But don't expect anyone to give way for the newcomers anytime soon!

Stay tuned for more updates as we gather tips from around the racing circuit.
